The Utah County High School Player of the Week is awarded each week to the top prep football players in Utah County. It honors athletes for their performances on the gridiron and exceptional play. Our winner this week was American Fork defensive end Dalin Afu.
Utah County Player of the Week – Dalin Afu, American Fork
The American Fork Cavemen went toe to toe with Timpview in a highly anticipated week 3 match up. Defensive end Dalin Afu accounted for two touchdowns, once on offense and added another defensive touchdown, as American Fork held on for a 28-26 win. The Cavemen established a 21-14 halftime lead, where Dalin ran in the first touchdown of the game on a two yard rush. Zack Cowie would add a receiving touchdown for the Cavemen early in the second quarter, connecting with quarterback Nate Childs. Timpview would respond with a field goal and a touchdown, with the score all tied up at 14 heading late into the second quarter.
Dalin Afu was key for the Cavemen on defense when he would force a fumble from the Thunderbirds, and went on to recover the fumble in the endzone for a touchdown. In the second half, American Fork added another touchdown to take a 28-14 lead. From there, Timpview would begin to mount the comeback in the fourth quarter. Despite a late rally by Timpview, where Dennis Tua’one scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, the Cavemen would hold on to win the game in an exhilarating finish. Dalin Afu would finish the game with 4 tackles, but his major impact came from the rushing touchdown early and the forced fumble picked up for a touchdown. Every week, KSL Sports will name a Utah County high school player of the week.
