The Utah County High School Player of the Week is awarded each week to the top prep football players in Utah County. It honors athletes for their performances on the gridiron and exceptional play. Our winner this week was Springville wide receiver and defensive back Sioasi Toki.
Utah County Player of the Week – Sioasi Toki, Springville
Following a region loss last week, the Springville Red Devils were at Pleasant Grove looking to get back into the win column. Both Springville and Pleasant Grove were off to good starts to the football season, both needing a win to keep pace in the region 7 race. Springville took the lead early with a rushing touchdown, and would extend the lead with a field goal in the second quarter. The Red Devils took a 10-0 lead into the halftime break.
Sioasi Toki took over in the second half for the Red Devils with extraordinary play on both offense and defense. Sioasi connected with quarterback Beckett Burton on a 18-yard touchdown catch with 11:39 left to go in the fourth quarter to extend the lead. As the Vikings were driving and marching down the field looking for a score to stay within striking distance, Sioasi took matters into his own hands to put the game away. Pleasant Grove threw an interception picked off by Sioasi, and he returned it all the way to the house for a 91-yard score. Springville won the game 34-8, with Sioasi Toki finishing the night with 8 receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown on offense, while adding 2 tackles and the interception returned for a touchdown on defense.
Every week, KSL Sports will name a Utah County high school player of the week.
