Hannah Bilka Shines As Team USA Smothers Canada In Shutout Victory

SALT LAKE CITY – “Free Bird” (USA’s legendary goal song) was on replay in Milan on Tuesday night as the United States Women’s hockey team scorched Team Canada’s nets in commanding fashion.
While matchups between the United States and Canada are generally considered a clash of the titans, the Americans simply dominated their opponents right from puck drop which resulted in a historic 5-0 shutout victory.

24-year-old forward Hannah Bilka’s Olympic moment arrived on Tuesday as she scored twice against Team Canada to lead all skaters with two goals.

After Bilka lifted the United States to a 2-0 lead late in the first, the Americans smothered their opponents for the rest of the evening as they played pucks in deep, generated turnovers on the forecheck and physically asserted themselves in front of the net.

Notably, defenseman Laila Edwards also registered her first career Olympic goal on Tuesday as she burst into the offensive zone and then sniped Canadian goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens top shelf to cap off a dominant 5-0 victory (largest Olympic victory by the United States over Canada in men’s or women’s hockey in history).
