Donovan Mitchell Erupts During Third Quarter Of Bulls/Jazz Game

SALT LAKE CITY – Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell exploded on offense during the third quarter of Utah’s game against the Chicago Bulls.

The Jazz hosted the Bulls at Vivint Arena on Wednesday, March 16.

In the first half, Mitchell had eight points on 3-7 field goals, including 2-5 from beyond the arc.

During the third quarter alone, the NBA All-Star burst for 25 points. In the quarter, Mitchell shot 8-13 from the field, including 7-9 from downtown.

Mitchell scorched the net to finish the quarter with 33 points. He added two rebounds and three assists.

Unfortunately for Mitchell and the Jazz, the scoring wasn’t the guard’s only explosion. Mitchell exploded in emotion after the officials didn’t blow their whistles for a foul on a drive to the basket. Mitchell let out his frustrations and received a technical foul with 5:56 left in the quarter. Chicago’s Ayo Dosunmu connected on a three-pointer seconds while Mitchell was arguing the call. However, Bulls guard Zach LaVine missed the ensuing free throw attempt.

At the end of the quarter, the Jazz owned an 89-81 lead.

Jazz vs. Bulls

The Jazz appeared as though they were finally getting healthy after the All-Star break, but the injuries are once again adding up with little more than three weeks left in the regular season.

Bogdanovic will miss his second straight game with a calf strain, just one game after missing Friday’s loss in San Antonio with a leg contusion.

House Jr. will miss the game due to a bone bruise in his knee, while Trent Forrest is out with a wrist sprain.

After facing the Bulls, the Jazz will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday before embarking on a six-game road trip beginning in New York and finishing at Golden State.

Bulls Trying To Fend Of Celtics

The Bulls have been one of the league’s most surprising teams, owning the best record in the East for much of the first half of the season.

However, like the Jazz, the team has been decimated by injuries, specifically to their backcourt, and now find themselves battling to hold onto their spot in the top of the Eastern Conference.

Lonzo Ball underwent knee surgery in late January and has not yet returned to the team, while Patrick Williams suffered a dislocated wrist in October and is hopeful to return to the lineup before the end of the season.

The Bulls are just 2-6 in their last eight games including Monday’s loss to the Sacramento Kings.
