SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz are currently on an eight-game winning streak, the longest current stretch in the NBA. The Jazz last lost on December 23 in Miami, the same night the team made drastic alterations to the roster, trading Dante Exum to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Jordan Clarkson, and waiving veteran Jeff Green in favor of G-League signee Rayjon Tucker.

Rarely do such major shifts pay off as immediately as these moves have for the Jazz, but there’s more to the story than simply a roster shakeup. This is a summary of what the Jazz have done over the last eight games.

The Jazz are 8-0:

During the streak, the Jazz have knocked off the Portland Trailblazers, the Detroit Pistons, the New York Knicks, and the Charlotte Hornets in Salt Lake City. Those four teams have a combined 55-103, or a ,348 winning percentage.

On the road, the Jazz have beaten the Los Angeles Clippers, the Chicago Bulls, the Orlando Magic, and the New Orleans Pelicans. Those four teams have a combined record of 71-84 or a .458 winning percentage.

Combined the teams have a 126-187 or a .402 winning percentage. Of the eight teams, only the Magic and Clippers are on pace to make the playoffs for their conferences.

Injuries Have Helped The Jazz:

During the win streak, the Jazz notably avoided Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic (POR), Montrezl Harrell (LAC), Blake Griffin, Luke Kennard, and Markieff Morris (DET), Otto Porter (CHI), Jonathan Issac (ORL), Zion Williamson (NOP), and Marcus Morris and Julius Randle (NYK), due to injury or for personal reasons.

The Jazz were without Mike Conley for each game, who has missed 16 of the team’s last 17 games.

The Scores:

The Jazz have scored 921 over the last eight games for an average of 115.1 points per game. In the first 30 games of the season, the Jazz averaged 107.3 points per game.

During the stretch, the Jazz have surrendered 819 points for an average of 102.3 points per game. In the first 30 games of the season, the Jazz allowed an average of 106.3 points per game.

The Jazz have scored 102 points or more in all eight games, including four of their eight highest-scoring outputs of the season during the stretch. They matched their season-high scoring output (128) twice in the stretch.

Opponents have scored in triple digits just four times during the eight-game stretch, while being held to 98 or fewer four times. The Jazz have allowed two of their eight highest-scoring outputs during the stretch but won both games.

The Jazz have held opponents under 100 points 10 times this season, four of which have come in the last six games.

Five of the team’s nine biggest margins of victory came over the last eight games. +13 at the Clippers, +13 at the Magic, +17 versus the Hornets, +23 versus the Pistons, and +24 versus the Knicks.

Only three of the victories have been decided by single digits.

The Stats:

As a team, the Jazz are shooting .507  percent from the floor and .414 percent from three over the last eight games, which are both second-best in the NBA. Opponents are shooting just .409 from the floor and .337 from the floor over the last eight games.

In the 30 games before the current win streak, the Jazz shot .458 from the floor and .385 from the three-point line. Opponents shot .441 from the floor and .341 from the three-point line.

The Jazz are turning the ball over just 11.9 times per game over the last eight games while forcing an identical 11.9 turnovers.

In the first 30 games of the season, he Jazz were turning the ball over 15.7 times per game and forcing 12.5 turnovers.

The Jazz 121.1 offensive rating is the best in the NBA over the last eight games by a staggering three points per 100 possessions.

The teams 107.2 defensive rating is the seventh-best in the NBA since December 26.

The Jazz have the best net rating during the stretch of 14, the Los Angeles Lakers are second best during the last eight games with 11.1.

The Standings:

Despite winning eight straight, the Jazz have climbed just one spot in the Western Conference standings. As of December 25, the day before the streak started, the Jazz were the 6th seeded team. As of January 11, the Jazz are the fifth seed.

The Jazz began the streak 3.5 games back of the third-seeded Houston Rockets. Now the Jazz are tied with the 4th seeded Rockets, but are just .5 games back of the third-seeded Clippers and second-seeded Denver Nuggets.

The Jazz head back on the road to face the 13-25 Washington Wizards in the first game of a three-game road trip.
