Report: Jazz Guard Vince Williams Jr. Suffers Torn ACL

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz guard Vince Williams Jr. reportedly suffered a torn ACL in the team’s loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night.
ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the news on social media.
“Utah Jazz guard Vince Williams Jr. has been diagnosed with a season-ending torn left ACL, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote. “Williams sustained the injury in a collision with Tari Eason in Houston on Monday night.”

Vince Williams Jr. Suffers Torn ACL
Williams Jr.’s injury occurred three minutes into the second quarter on a Rockets fast break.
Following a Brice Sensabaugh turnover, Williams Jr. was bumped by Houston wing Tari Eason, forcing him to lose his balance and step awkwardly on his left leg.

The guard collapsed immediately, holding his knee in front of the Jazz’s bench, and was carried off the court by members of the team’s security.
Officials failed to call a foul on Eason, resulting in an open layup for Eason and the Rockets.
Williams Jr.’s Brief Stint With Jazz
The injury ends Williams Jr.’s season with the Jazz, which lasted only five games.
Utah acquired the guard in the Jaren Jackson Jr. blockbuster, adding a veteran defender to the team’s inexperienced backcourt.
The Jazz likely would have picked up Williams Jr.’s $2.5 million team option next season, but that could change depending on the severity of his injury and his timeline to return to the floor.
With Jackson Jr. on the roster and center Walker Kessler expected to get a big contract offer this summer, the Jazz will have limited salary cap space to fill out the remainder of their roster, potentially hurting Williams Jr.’s chances of sticking with the team.
The 25-year-old averaged 5.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in five appearances with the Jazz this season.
