Bruising Bear Bachmeier Run Gives No. 15 Double-Digit Holy War Lead

PROVO, Utah — The Bear abides after BYU QB Bear Bachmeier powered through the heart of Utah’s stout defense for a game-changing fourth-quarter touchdown to lead 24-14.

The true freshman showed exactly why he has become the toast of the Big 12 with a gutsy drive that gave the Cougars a massive Holy War advantage.

BYU attempted two passes on the eight-play drive, favoring the ground game of LJ Martin and Bachmeier. Martin opened the drive with 17 yards on two carries before two completions set up 1st and 10 on the Utah 33.

After Martin carried his team into the red zone, Bachmeier went to work.

The 6’2, 220-pounder kept the football and went right into the heart of Utah’s defensive core. After appearing to be stopped near the ten-yard line, Bachmeier’s strength allowed him to stay on his feet.

Reinforcements arrived, forcing their QB into the end zone in a mass of humanity that sent the home crowd into a state of delirium.

Location: Provo, Utah 

Utah reentered the Top 25 this week, checking in at No. 23 after crushing a shorthanded Arizona State team 42-10 at home last weekend. The Utes have won two consecutive games by an average of 33 points.

BYU jumped out to a 6-0 start for the second consecutive season, marking the first time in program history that they have accomplished that feat. The Cougars hope to have gained momentum in a rain-soaked, 2OT road win over the Arizona Wildcats.

BYU is looking for its third straight win for the first time since 1992.
