“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game I love at the Division 1 level – this journey has been nothing short of a dream, and I am truly grateful for every single moment,” wrote Diomande.

“To the BYU Cougar Nation – Thank you for welcoming me from Paris, France, and making Provo feel like home. Suiting up in blue and white at the Marriott Center has meant the world to me. Wearing number 24 for this program has been an honor I will carry forever. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. I am excited for what lies ahead and ready for the next chapter.”

The 6-foot-7, 213-pound forward from Paris, France, transferred into BYU after a redshirt season at Washington last year.

While playing overseas in France, Diomande was a standout in the France-ProA U21 league, displaying the ability to defend one through four.

One season with the BYU basketball program

During his one season with BYU, Diomande didn’t carve out a consistent role until late in the season. He began earning consistent minutes in a loss at Cincinnati, where he provided a spark on the defensive end of the floor.

Then, Diomande had some of his best games at BYU during the Big 12 Tournament, where he had back-to-back games with breakaway windmill dunks. He was part of the group of players that head coach Kevin Young challenged to “stay ready” for when their opportunity was called. The Paris, France native made the most of his chances in the Big 12 Tournament.

Dominique Diomande finished with averages of 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 24 games played for BYU in the 2025-26 season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at the next school he lands at.

The departure of Diomande brings BYU up to three portal entries in the 2026 cycle, joining center Xavion Staton and starting point guard Rob Wright III.
