Bear Bachmeier Reaches BYU Freshman Milestone Against West Virginia

PROVO, Utah – BYU true freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier wears number 47 to remind himself of his younger days as a running back. Now a full-time QB for the Cougars, Bachmeier still carries that ball-carrier attitude when he leaves the pocket.
It’s done him well after the Murrietta, California native passed Taysom Hill (2012) for the most rushing touchdowns by a freshman QB with a two-yard run against West Virginia.
No. 23 BYU is hosting West Virginia at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Friday, October 3. The Cougars went into halftime with a 28-10 lead after a dominating first half.

He has had a superb opening 30 minutes after throwing for 249 yards and one score despite committing the first two turnovers of his collegiate career.
Bachmeier entered tonight with 163 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. He uses his 6’2, 220-pound frame to punish any defenders who dare stand between him and the goal line.
He finished with a career-high 98 yards against Colorado but did not score for the first time this season. Bachmeier scored two rushing TDs against Portland before adding one touchdown each against Stanford and East Carolina.

The two-time Big 12 Freshman of the Week has completed 61-of-90 passes (67.8 percent) for 697 yards and six touchdowns without an interception.
