BYU Football Introduces Sea Worthy New Lids For Texas Tech Game

PROVO, Utah – The BYU Cougars equipment team is diving into their bag of tricks as Halloween approaches, introducing a royal blue Sailor Cougar-logoed helmet for the November 8 matchup with Texas Tech.
No. 10 BYU kicks off against No. 13 Texas Tech at 10 a.m. MT on Saturday, November 8.

BYU equipment staff have a long history of new and unique helmet and uniform designs that dates back decades.

BYU debuts Sailor Cougar as secondary helmet logo in 2021
Sailor Cougar first debuted on BYU helmets in response to the Baylor Bears’ “Sailor Bear” helmet in a 2021 matchup between the programs.
Sailor Cougar has been a BYU logo since the 1980s, but a 2014 revamp gave it a more modern, chic look.

After initially being a small presence on the back of BYU helmets, Sailor Cougar became a prominent side logo when BYU faced the SMU Mustangs in the 2022 New Mexico Bowl.
