Utah State Forward Justin Bean Says Aggies ‘Looking To Prove Something’ In 2020-21 Season

Aug 4, 2020, 1:19 PM | Updated: 1:20 pm

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Aggie forward Justin Bean said that the Utah State men’s basketball team is “looking to prove something” and make “another run at a Mountain West championship” in the upcoming 2020-21 season.

Bean spoke with reporters following the Aggies’ first full practice of the summer on Tuesday, August 4.

“Feels great felt great to be back out there. I know myself and the guys didn’t get a lot of sleep last night,” Bean said. “Felt like a little kid on Christmas morning. So it was good to be back out there. Energy was high, as expected. So everyone really brought it today. So it’s good to see everyone back.”

The junior from Moore, Oklahoma continued by saying how excited he is to see how the Aggies’ new roster fits together and if they can repeat as Mountain West Conference champions for the third straight season.

“I think everyone’s really hungry, looking to prove something,” Bean continued. “They’ve got a lot of drive this year and looking forward to putting all the pieces together and making another run at a Mountain West championship.”

This season, Utah State has to replace the production from last season’s leading scorer, Sam Merrill, who averaged 19.7 points per game in 2019-20. Merrill helped the Aggies earn back-to-back MWC titles in his junior and senior campaigns. He was recently invited to participate in the NBA Scouting Combine.

However, the Aggies will return four of the program’s top six scorers from a season ago, including Bean.

Last season, Bean was Utah State’s third-leading bucket getter and only play to average a double-double. He recorded 11.9 points and 10.5 rebounds in 34 games as a sophomore.
