Pac-12 Issues Statement After California State System Announcement

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Pac-12 has issued a statement following the decision by California State University system chancellor Timothy White that it will operate primarily with online instruction for the fall semester.

The system’s 23 schools that are impacted by this decision includes Mountain West Conference members Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State.

The Pac-12 issued a statement on the decision on Wednesday.

“The Pac-12 and our member universities will make our own determination on when our student-athletes can return to play when and how campuses will reopen to students. These decisions will be based first and foremost on the health and well-being of all those connected to the Pac-12, and informed advice of public health and medical experts along with state and local governmental orders. Everyday we are learning new and important information that will inform our decisions, and we believe that there is a great benefit to having as much relevant data as possible before making such decisions.”

Colorado is scheduled to play Fresno State and UCLA is scheduled to play San Diego State in 2020.

While the California State University system does not impact any of the Pac-12 schools in California, one thing that could hinder the process to start the college football season on time is the shutdown of LA County that was announced on Tuesday.

That shutdown goes through July.
