SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The youth football coach for Ty Jordan recalled a text conversation with the running back when he was on his official visit at the University of Utah.

Youth football coach Cory McDonald spoke about his visit at the Celebration of Life for the Utah running back Ty Jordan that was held at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, January 6.

McDonald recalled a text conversation with Jordan that took place while he on his official visit at Utah.

“I was going through my phone the other day and I had a screenshot, he sent me a message when he went on his official visit at Utah,” McDonald said. “He just said ‘hey coach it’s home.’ I was like, ‘what are you talking about?’ He (Jordan) never had this feeling before, he just said it was home. Ty said ‘they were treating me well, my mom loves it, I love the environment, love the people, it’s home.”‘

The immediate impact that Jordan had on the football program and the community will never be forgotten by anyone who follows Utah football.

Jordan died on Christmas night in Denton, Texas near his hometown to an accidental self-inflicted gun shot wound in his abdomen.

The Mesquite, Texas native ran for 597 yards and 6 touchdowns in his first season with the Utes. Jordan was named Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, earned Associated Press Newcomer of the Year and was named a Freshman All-American by 247Sports.

Head coach Kyle Whittingham, Utah athletics director Mark Harlan and running backs coach Kiel McDonald also spoke at the services held for Ty Jordan.
