SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah men’s basketball big man Branden Carlson was having some fun during summer workouts by throwing down an impressive dunk.
The Utah basketball team is practicing during the summer as they prepare for the second season of the Craig Smith era when Branden Carlson showed off his athleticism with a nice dunk.
Carlson went towards the rim and put the ball in between his legs, while in the air and threw down the dunk.

On Wednesday, Utah basketball tweeted out some photos from practice. The photos showed showed Eli Ballstaedt working out with assistant coach Tim Morris, Cincinnati transfer Mike Saunders Jr. taking some shots, Jaxon Brenchley making a layup and Carlson mid-flight with the ball between his legs.

Carlson is entering his senior year and will look to have an even better season than an improved 2021-22 campaign. Last season, Carlson started in 23 of the 24 games he played in, while missing eight games. He missed three games due to health and safety protocols and five games due to an appendectomy.
Carlson led the team in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game, along with six rebounds per contest. He finished 11th in the Pac-12 in scoring and 13th in rebounding.
The South Jordan, Utah native prepped at Bingham High School before serving a two-year church mission. When he returned, he joined the Runnin’ Utes for the 2019-20 season. He started 29 of his 30 games played as a true freshman, averaging seven points, four rebounds and one block per game.
As a sophomore in 2020-21, Carlson started in 21 of 25 games played, finishing with averages of 9.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and a team-high 42 blocks.
Carlson will be a big piece for Craig Smith and the Runnin’ Utes this season and will be a major factor if he can stay healthy.
