Two Locals Named Semifinalists For Prestigious Defensive Award

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Junior linebacker for the Utah State Aggies David Woodward and Utes senior defensive end Bradlee Anae have been named semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik award.
The award is given to the most outstanding defensive player in college football each year, according to the Maxwell Football Club. There are 20 semifinalists at this point in the season.
Woodward is one of two semifinalists from the Mountain West Conference. Boise State’s Curtis Weaver also made the cut.

The Aggie linebacker is averaging 13.3 tackles per game and sits at third in the nation with 4 forced fumbles.
Anae, a Utah fan favorite, has 7 sacks and 13 solo tackles on the season thus far.

Three of Anae’s sacks came in Utah’s win against Arizona State, a must-win game for Utah that kept their hopes of winning the Pac-12 South alive.
The Bednarik award is voted on by head coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club and sportscasters from around the nation.
