Afternoon forecast for June 24, 2026
Afternoon and evening storms have mixed up the atmosphere, but once the storms end and the wind dies down, the smoke will settle right back into the valleys. Expect poor air quality tonight through Thursday morning. Storms this evening will push into a line and head into central Utah - hopefully bringing some rain to both the Iron and Cottonwood Fires. Thursday will start off dry but scattered showers and storms, wet and dry, will develop again across the state tomorrow afternoon. Storms will work eastward with time and will have a chance to produce severe wind gusts across northern and central Utah and flash flooding in southeast Utah. Friday will be dry, but winds will be strong gusting up to 40 mph, returning high fire danger to the entire state. As we head into the weekend, northern Utah could see some precipitation as a storm system works through. This storm will sweep a couple of cold fronts through, dropping temperatures well below normal into the low 70s by Sunday. - Devan Masciulli, KSL Weather 6.24.26
